We recently had the pleasure of hosting a packed seminar the Landmark Inn in the active village of Cooperstown, New York. Cooperstown is one of those “great” locations, with the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the renowned Glimmerglass Opera Festival, Dreams Park Baseball, Otsego Lake and world class museums all within close proximity to the village center. Add a world class brewery with a sensational summer concert series and yearlong brewery tours (Brewery Ommegang) and you have an instant recipe for success as an Inn owner. However, success as an Innkeeper depends upon Innkeepers capitalizing on the opportunities that exist around them. Luckily, two of our favorite Inns in Cooperstown are successful for that very reason.
Owners of the Inn at Cooperstown, Marc and Sherrie Kingsley, fully understand the Cooperstown market and have done an outstanding job marrying their interests in Innkeeping with other worldly pursuits. They are avid cyclists and at numerous times throughout the year the Inn is filled with upscale guests who share their passion. To serve the active community of cycle-wild guests at the Inn, the owners renovated an old cobbler shoe shop behind the Inn into the Big Ring Bicycle Clubhouse, which offers guests of the Inn all the amenities cyclists would desire and more!
Another passion of Marc and Sherrie’s is craft beer and they have collaborated with Brewery Ommegang to produce a “Bed and Brew” package, which includes two nights at the Inn, transportation to the brewery, a VIP guided tour and tasting, a gourmet beer and food pairing dinner and much more.
But not every Innkeeper needs to be focused on such passions to be successful. We always say, “You look in the mirror, and that is your guest.” Your passion for genuine hospitality, attentive staff, well-appointed rooms and comfortable public areas with original work by local artists constitutes another passion. Add a decadent breakfast, orange shortbread chocolate chip cookies and citrus spa water available 24 hours a day, and the result will be high occupancy supported by outstanding amenities. That is the charge of the Landmark Inn, a luxury Bed and Breakfast in Cooperstown.
Beyond the amenities, packages and services these Inns provide, occupancy is furthered by the countless activities and attractions in Cooperstown, New York. Of course, both Inns we mentioned understand that you have mere seconds to make in impression, from your website to the reservation confirmation to check-in, and it is within the blink of an eye that guests will decide to book with you or move along.
I wish you all well, and hope that many will appraise your commitment to Innkeeping in the New Year.
Best wishes from our team for the New Year!
